Umred Pauni Karhandla Tiger Reserve is located in Khaksi, Maharashtra, India. It is split between the Nagpur and Bhandara divisions. The reserve is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to a variety of wildlife species. It is spread across 189 square kilometers. The reserve was established in 2013 and is named after the Umred River and Pauni River that flow through it. The diverse habitat of the reserve includes dense forests, grasslands, and water bodies, providing a suitable environment for animals like tigers, leopards, sloth bears, and various bird species. The Karhandla Tiger Reserve is also recognized for its successful conservation efforts, particularly in the preservation of the endangered Royal Bengal Tigers. The reserve offers various eco-tourism activities, such as jungle safaris and nature walks, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of the reserve while promoting awareness and appreciation for its unique ecosystem.

Umred Karhandla's flora includes herbs like Tarota, Tnella, Tarwar, Gokru, Wight, Vanbhendi, Vetatri, and Waghori. Common grasses like Kusal, Kunda, Kadmod, Guhar, Harial, Mota, and Mushan contribute to the sanctuary's ecological balance. Bamboo forests house over 250 plant species. These plant species provide a diverse habitat for various animals and birds that reside in Umred Karhandla. Additionally, the bamboo forests also play a crucial role in preventing soil erosion and maintaining the water table in the sanctuary.

The sanctuary's faunal diversity is remarkable, with endangered species like Tigers, Panthers, Small Indian Civet Cats, and Blackbucks. Invertebrates, mammals, birds, and reptiles contribute to a thriving ecosystem, making Umred Karhandla a sanctuary of ecological importance.With over 180 bird species, including migratory and endangered ones like peafowls, and 26 reptile species, including the Indian Cobra, India Rock Python, Rat Snake, Russell’s Viper, Checkered Keelback, and Common Monitor Lizard, the sanctuary stands as a testament to the intricate balance of nature.
