Karhandla Gate

Karhandla is the most famous gate of the Umred-Karhandla Jungle and is highly popular for sightings of sloth bears. Birds such as white-eyed buzzard eagle, oriental honey buzzard, and mottled wood owl form a part of this wonderland’s fauna.

Animals such as Tigers, Leopards, Indian Gaur, Nil Gai, and Deer are found in abundance in this region of wilderness. One can find a plethora of birds here. A well-known among many is the Red-crested Pochard that migrates for a good 4 months of winter from Europe and England. These birds can be sighted starting from November to January or February. Apart from the exotic migratory birds like redstart, this woodland also boasts of indigenous species of birds including Indian Eagles, Scoop Owls, Spotted Owls, Indian Grey Hornbill, and Osprey.

How to reach

To witness this natural wonder, one can embark on a total of 4 hours of jungle safari spanning 55–60 km. Umred Karhandla is within driving distance of Nagpur (63 km, 1.50 hours).

Safari timing

There are two shifts: a morning shift and an evening shift. The hours for morning shifts are 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The hours for evening safaris are 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
