Gothangaon Gate

Gothangaon is a gate of the Umred-Karhandla Jungle and is well-known for wildlife sightings, especially the tigress fairy, a multitude of water bodies, and scenic beauty. Gothangaon is situated 65 km from Nagpur, and one can easily reach here by personal vehicle. This part of the jungle boasts a wide variety of flora and fauna, along with the famous Indira Gandhi Back Waters, also known as Gosikhurd.

Gothangaon Gate is home to the wildly popular Tigress Fairy. Slightly whitish, the tigress fairy is famous for her unparalleled beauty and is naturally the show-stopper of the Umred Karhandla jungle. She can be seen at the Gothangaon gate. This majestic beauty, having a T6 code, is one of a kind and has five cubs aged 2 months each. Additionally, the six-year-old Surya Tiger, who is the son of Tigress Maya of Tadoba, migrated here from Tadoba Jungle and has been ruling Gothangaon for the last three years.

Animals such as tigers, leopards, Indian gaurs, and deer are found in abundance in this region of wilderness. One can find a plethora of birds here. A well-known species amongst many is the red-crested pochard, which migrates for a good 4 months of winter from Europe and England. These birds can be sighted from November to January or February. Apart from the exotic migratory birds like Red Star, Northern Shoveler, and Northern Pintail, this woodland also boasts indigenous species of birds, including Indian Eagles, Scoop Owls, Spotted Owls, Indian Grey Hornbills, and Osprey.
